As a child, exploring the forests and creeks of the Middletown, MD Valley, Paul "Josh" Ingraham embraced the adventure of seeing what was “right around the corner” and established within himself a strong curiosity in observing and reproducing nature.  In high school, he was part of the first class established in the Visual and Performing Arts Program located in the Frederick County School System. There, he met other artists and began an earnest exploration into visual arts. After high school, the military was next, foregoing a job offer as an illustrator and art college, the desire to see what was “right around the corner” once again took hold and he was off to Europe to discover those trails and streams.

After a painting hiatus lasting several years, the artist was inspired by the birth of his children to start painting again, tentative at first, but lasting. Over the years, he has refined his style from high realism into a more compositional and “relaxed” style to capture the scenes surrounding and inspiring him.  His first solo show was “Captured Moments,” in 2009 at the Delaplaine Arts Center, Frederick, Maryland.

Josh's approach to art can be summarized as “…the beauty found in the mundane features of life appeal to me, and I believe that those observations should be introduced to the viewer through artwork. It is a thrill to capture the simplicity of a moment and help define the world around me.”

The artist paints using watercolor (dry brush) and acrylics on canvas board or heavy paper.  For acrylics he uses heavy gesso layers which form his style and add to the composition’s texture.  Lately, the artist has been heavily exploring abstract painting.  This new direction, perhaps “the next corner” inspires him and helps redefine his artistic style as he contemplates form and texture vice subject matter.  He draws influence from Andrew Wyeth and Winslow Homer.

The artist resides in Knoxville, Maryland with his wife and children.
